Sustainability Policy

Reduction of disposable and consumable goods
We assess the reusability and recyclability of purchased products and prioritize brands and alternatives that are more sustainable.

Purchasing
We assess the reusability and recyclability of our purchases and favor more sustainable brands and alternatives. We prioritize sourcing eco-friendly materials from accredited suppliers whenever possible.

Paper and Printing
We print all official documents on wheat and straw paper. This paper is ISO certified. The brand also supports reforestation projects. Digital documents are available to guests to minimize printing. Double-sided printing and copying are the standard practice. We don't produce printed promotional materials, relying instead on online promotions and brochures to date.

Cleaning materials
We mainly use our own bio-enzyme cleaners.

Energy reduction

  • We conserve electricity and fuel whenever possible. Employees do not need to be in the office work from home to reduce energy consumption.
  • All lighting used is by energy-efficient LEDs.
  • We switch off electrical equipment, including air conditioning and lights, during breaks and after work.
  • We prioritize new equipment purchases based on energy efficiency, following the highest available local standards.
  • We set air conditioners and refrigerators to energy-saving modes.

Water and Chemicals
The company makes a conscious effort to reduce water by

  • Monitoring and fixing leaks, whenever encountered.
  • Use of dual-flush toilets
  • Reduction in the use of water for cleaning
  • Wastewater, including greywater, is disposed of through government-provided sewage systems
  • Bio enzymes and natural cleaners are used. Herbal pesticides are preferred for pest control.
  • Any harmful chemicals are disposed of as per government regulations.

Waste

  • We segregate and dispose of waste according to government regulations and compliance.
  • We avoid using disposable items as much as possible.
  • We do bulk purchasing to reduce packaging waste.
  • We use soft copies of documents whenever possible. For internal documents, we print double-sided or use scrap paper.
  • We run printers and copiers on refillable cartridges.
  • We send paper and other materials to recyclers and/or scrap dealers.
  • Presents for guests are usually in biodegradable packaging, reused packaging, or unwrapped
  • Single-use plastic bottles are no longer used in the office
  • Rechargeable batteries are used for cameras. We do not use power cut inverter batteries.

Travel and Mobility

  • We advise staff and officials to use the most sustainable modes of transport, including carpooling and public transport.
  • Only essential personnel come to the office daily. Most employees work remotely and use teleconferencing to communicate.
  • We prioritize the most sustainable, timely, and affordable transportation options for our guests.
  • The most sustainable transport options to and from a destination (while also considering time and cost constraints) are selected and preferred
  • The company provides guests with more sustainable options for transfers and excursions, and favors those options. Guests can select options based on their comfort levels.

Training and Awareness

  • Office employees and field and lodge staff periodically undergo training.
  • These training modules include an assessment of current environmental practices (including water, waste, and energy management)

Land use

  • All properties owned by the company adhere to all legal requirements for the concerned areas
  • We carry out development to minimize the impact on the surrounding environment.

Partners and Suppliers

  • We have partnered with agencies that either participate in the Travelife program or hold certification from a similar organization. For those who are not
Engaged with any such organization, we are encouraging them to do so.
  • We often ensure that our partners have read our Sustainability Policy and are aware of it.
  • We do not partner with any agencies or suppliers that engage in child labor.
  • We prefer and select accommodations with more sustainable practices over those with less sustainable practices, wherever possible. Informal training with respect to sustainable management practices is given to the accommodations
  • We give preference to accommodation partners who are certified and/or recognized by GSTC, Travelife, or any organization, or those who are working towards certification. Due to this, we have been able to give clients a more authentic experience (which they have appreciated) and are able to truthfully market our accommodation partners as sustainable.
  • We encourage our accommodation and community-based tourism partners to participate in training programs that we or our partner Planeterra provides.
  • We are currently working with Planeterra on identifying, training, and working with community-based sustainable tourism initiatives. We are also working with the Ittu Sa Restaurant at Heritage Village in Chhoti Haldwani to provide authentic local meals and help train locals there as wildlife and birdwatching guides.
  • We prefer and recommend accommodations with more sustainable practices to clients over those with less sustainable practices, wherever possible.
  • We give preference to accommodation partners that display and promote local art and/or architecture (without exploiting or wrongly appropriating local culture in any way).
  • We do not support any accommodation that carries out or supports any illegal activity.
  • Although we have not had any need as yet, we will terminate any business relations with accommodations that regularly fail to provide basic services to clients. We always provide clients with feedback forms and encourage them to record any grievances. If our representative accompanies the client, they give this communication directly to the accommodation manager and also to our office.

Sustainable holidays and activities

  • We created sustainable packages, taking into account transport options, accommodation, and activities offered. We give these packages preference when marketing and/or offering them to clients.
  • We do not support unsustainable activities at excursion bases. In addition, we provide awareness to the public of the negative impacts of such services
Our tours do not offer or conduct sport fishing or hunting because they are prohibited. We conduct all wildlife viewing and visits to traditional communities according to legal requirements (where applicable). We discourage captive animal attractions.
  • The company offers no activities that harm humans, animals, plants, natural resources (e.g. water/energy), or which are socially/culturally unacceptable.
People do not harvest wildlife species as souvenirs. We only buy souvenirs involving wildlife species from reputable suppliers permitted by the relevant authorities and laws.
  • Certified, local guides usually lead guests around the sites.
  • Additional activities are added to our itineraries that showcase local NGO/charity/community work. eg, Wildlife tours to Ranthambore National Park often involve visits to a local woman-empowerment community movement. These women make handicrafts that tourists can buy as souvenirs, providing them with income and capital
  • The company offers client packages and promotions that include excursions and activities supporting local environmental and biodiversity initiatives.
  • We ensure that tour leaders and guides understand their roles and terms. We professionally discuss these terms periodically.
  • We do not choose destinations that do not meet our sustainability requirements. We prefer destinations that meet our requirements.
